Chapter 4: Travelling to Durham

There are numerous ways to reach Durham:

By car: Durham about 1 mile from the A1(M). Durham is a 4 hour car journey from Cambridgeshire and Letchworth Garden City. Check with your accommodation if there is parking and how much it costs.

By train: Durham is on the East Coast mainline. We are 2 hours from Peterborough and 3 hours from London. Durham station has taxis readily available at all hours of day (or one will be along within 5 minutes). A taxi to almost anywhere within Durham will be under £10, and most places are a comfortable walk. Train tickets are significantly cheaper when booked well in advance, and you can reserve seating.

By bus: Well - you could come by bus, but then you could come by bicycle.

By aeroplane: Newcastle and Durham airports are at least 30 minutes by car. Add that to the flight time, check in time and luggage collection, and it is twice the cost and far more time than coming by train or car.

By bicycle: We were joking about that bit.
