Welcome to 20, Donnini Place in Gilesgate - your new home!

We offer four spacious and stylish study-bedrooms in a peaceful cul-de-sac a short walk from central Durham.

To make things easy, all contracts are 'bill free' (contract includes rent, electricity, water, gas, TV licence, and wifi). All rooms are rented individually. We prefer finalists, postgraduates, and mature students, to maintain the quiet ethos of the house.

All our bedrooms are individually lockable. They come with a bed, desk, chair, bookcase, wardrobe, mirror, plenty of drawers, and hooks on the back of the door. We also supply a desk lamp, bedside lamp, and a noticeboard.

Lots of our residents come from overseas. For an additional charge, we can offer Bedding Packs, Towel Packs, and Kitchen Packs to help make things easy. Ask us for more information.

Renovations Update

We always aim to keep the house up to date and in good repair. In 2021 we completed an exciting range of building works, to make this an even nicer home - including upgrading the kitchen, installing a new boiler, adding a new bedroom, and fully redecorating downstairs. In 2023 we recarpeted and redecorated througout upstairs. In 2024 we replaced various appliances and pieces of furniture. We regularly update the house to make sure that it's a good place to live!

About us

We're independent landlords, and this is the only house we let in Durham. As Durham graduates ourselves, we know what it's like to live in poor quality housing - which is why we put so much time and effort into making this into the sort of house that we would like to live in ourselves! We still live near Durham, so if you have any problems during your tenancy we can come and help. We'd always prefer to hear about problems quickly so we can fix them quickly!

Bedroom 1

This bright and spacious room at the front of the house overlooks the quiet cul-de-sac. Our largest bedroom, measuring 3.8m x 3.3m (12'5 x 10'11).

All our bedrooms are individually lockable. They come with a bed, desk, chair, bookcase, wardrobe, mirror, plenty of drawers, and hooks on the back of the door. We also supply a desk lamp, bedside lamp, and a noticeboard.

This room has a double bed. It can be let to one person, or to a couple for a small additional cost.

Bedroom 3

This attractive, sunny bedroom at the front of the house looks out over the quiet cul-de-sac. It measures 2.9m x 2.7m (9'6 x 8'11), and has a raised bed with storage underneath.

All our bedrooms are individually lockable. They come with a bed, desk, chair, bookcase, wardrobe, mirror, plenty of drawers, and hooks on the back of the door. We also supply a desk lamp, bedside lamp, and a noticeboard.

Bedroom 4

This well appointed ground floor bedroom looks out into the tranquil private rear garden. It measures 3.0m x 2.7m (9'10 x 8'10).

All our bedrooms are individually lockable. They come with a bed, desk, chair, bookcase, wardrobe, mirror, plenty of drawers, and hooks on the back of the door. We also supply a desk lamp, bedside lamp, and a noticeboard.

Living room

A spacious chill-out area, with plenty of comfy seating and a large wall mounted TV. Perfect for relaxing in the evening or socialising with friends! We provide a generously sized dining table - so you can hold your own dinner parties, or enjoy casual evening meals with your housemates.

Kitchen

Spacious modern kitchen with oven, hob, dishwasher, and a huge fridge. We provide a toaster, kettle, and microwave. There's loads of storage - but if you need even more space don't forget that there's also the Utility Room!

Garden

The back garden is private and fully enclosed. Enjoy the sunshine in this spacious paved area while studying, relaxing, or entertaining friends! Tenants tell us they love being able to hold barbeques here.

Shower Room

This recently refitted room boasts a powerful electric shower and stylish heated towel rail. There are two bathroom cabinets as well as a full height fitted cupboard, so there'll be lots of room for your toiletries, towels, and spare bed linen.

Hall

The Hall has a full length mirror and communal noticeboard. Under the stairs is a convenient storage area for coats and shoes. Carpeted stairs lead up to the first floor.

Boot Room

The Boot Room is a great space for storing muddy boots, wet umbrellas, and sporting equipment. It opens out to the back garden.

Utility Room

The washing machine, second fridge, freezer, vacuum cleaner, and cleaning equipment can all be found in the Utility Room. We supply an iron and ironing board, as well as multiple clothes airers. There's a sink for handwashing delicates or cleaning muddy boots. The Utility Room has many cupboards, so there's plenty of storage space for every tenant - enough for a couple of cupboards each!

Local area

Donnini Place

The house is in Donnini Place, a quiet cul-de-sac in central Gilesgate. It's so peaceful that you sometimes find cats sleeping on the road in the summer! Woodland walks around the riverbanks are less than 10 minutes from the house.

Shopping

There's a small Sainsbury's about a 5 minute walk away (on the main road). This has almost everything you need for your weekly shop - we used to shop there when we lived in Gilesgate.

If you'd like a wider range of products, there's a big Tesco's (a massive Tesco Extra, open 24 hours) in the Dragonville area of Gilesgate - about 15 minutes away on foot, or there are buses that do most of the journey.

Takeaways

There are several takeaways within a short walking distance. We can recommend Bells Fish and Chips and Lebaneat (Lebanese and Mediterranean food) - both close to Sainsbury's, but there are many more who deliver.

Buses

There's a bus stop near Sainsbury's on the main route between Durham and Sunderland, and there's a smaller bus stop in Montgomery Road (just outside Donnini Place) - but most places in Durham are easily walkable.

Getting around

Durham is a safe and walkable city, and most places can be reached most easily on foot. The Science Site is less than 30 minutes on foot, and the Bailey - with the Marketplace, Cathedral, and Castle - are an easy 20 minute walk from the house. If you're driving, there's free on street parking throughout most of Gilesgate.

  • The wifi password is written on the back of the router. The router is in the Living Room, on the bookcase between the window and the door
  • In case of emergency - the stop cock to turn off the main water supply is in the kitchen (at the back of the cupboard under the sink, on the right)
  • In case of emergency - the fuse box to turn off the mains electricity is under the stairs
