Chapter 2: The Characters

Here is a Who's Who of some of the main cast:

Alex (Sandy) Taylor is the Best Man. Sandy is a Durham graduate who is now doing a PhD at Bristol. Andrew and Alice have spent many happy hours with Sandy in the pub together playing Go. He also has rescued Alice from several mice. Sandy passed on some helpful advice from his parents that the key to a happy marriage was never to hang wallpaper together.

Lucy Thurman is going to be our bridesmaid. Lucy is Andrew's younger sister and lives in Letchworth. She has been lots of help in coming up with ideas for the wedding.

Thomas Cardale is an usher. He is another Durham Engineer who mainly knows Alice and Andrew through CompSoc and Go Club. Thomas is an old Etonian who now works on a dairy farm. He spends his days up to his armpits in slurry, trying to unblock the digester. We're sure he'll have lots of stories about this to keep you entertained during the Wedding Breakfast.

Robert Taylor is an usher and Alice's College Husband from their days at Hild Bede. Rob now lives "Down South" but we still see quite a lot of him. He enjoys ringing bells, drinking beer, playing Go and running elections.

Luke Humphries is an usher and another Durham graduate. He read Physics at Marys and now works as a Code Monkey "Down South". Luke enjoys Go, losing his shoes, his wallet, his coat, his jumper and flapping. While we won't be trusting him to look after the rings, we know he'll do a great job entertaining our guests.

Jenny Radcliffe is our Photographer. Jenny is Andrew's former housemate, a keen Go player and another Durham graduate. She is a free-lance technical writer and now lives in sunny Crawley. As a keen amateur photographer, Jenny has kindly agreed to take photographs of the day. Jenny will no doubt be ably assisted by her spousal equivalent, Mike Rofe. Mike read Classics at Durham and is now a Chartered Accountant, so you know he's a nice sort of bloke.

Martin Dehnel is our Other Photographer. Martin is a fellow Castleman, Compsoccer and wannabe Durham graduate. Martin is studying Computer Science at the moment, and might even graduate one day. Since he lives in Durham Cathedral, we couldn't really not invite him! Martin will be using his photographic talents to assist Jenny on the day.

Richard Scothon is a chum of Andrew's and his former landlord. He has kindly offered to play the organ during the service. Yes, he is a Durham graduate too just in case you were wondering.

Millie is Andrew's small niece and is going to be a flowergirl. Sadly she doesn't have a degree from Durham so she only gets a walk-on role.
