Chapter 1: Andrew and Alice

Despite the fact that we have both lived in Durham since October 2004 and have dozens of mutual friends, the first time we remember meeting was a couple of years ago across a Go board.

For those guests who only know one of us, we thought we should introduce ourselves. Alice originally comes from Cambridgeshire, but came to Durham to read Classics at Hild Bede and never left. She qualified as an Chartered accountant a few years ago but now works at Nissan HQ in Sunderland doing Corporate Governance (no, most people don't know what that is either). She likes cooking, reading, playing Go, crafts and DIY.

Andrew grew up in Hertfordshire and came to Durham to do an undergraduate degree in Engineering (he's a Castleman). While at Durham he built a solar car and raced it across the USA and Australia. Andrew recently submitted his PhD in Electronic Engineering. He's now doing research and development work as an Electronic Engineer for a company based near Middlesbrough. Andrew enjoys reading, playing Go, DIY and generally making and mending things.

We have both recently changed our surnames to Ambrose-Thurman and we will continue to use this surname once we are married. We changed our names so far in advance because we were both starting new jobs and it seemed less complicated.

We hope you will be able to join us in August to celebrate our marriage.
